Yener appears on 2017 Highly Cited Researchers List

12/18/2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa — Aylin Yener, professor of electrical engineering in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science appears in the Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) Highly Cited Researchers 2017 list.

The Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers list is comprised annually of authors with leading peer-reviewed papers. Researchers given this honor were in the top 1 percent of citations for their field of study and publication year. The 2017 list included more than 3,300 Highly Cited Researchers who were categorized into 21 broad fields of science and social science. Collectively, the researchers named to the list were responsible for more than 130,000 highly cited papers. Yener was cited in the computer science category.

Yener joined the faculty of Penn State in 2002 as an assistant professor. She was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2006 and to full professor in 2010. In 2017 she was named a Dean’s Fellow. She is about to complete her second sabbatical at Stanford University where she has been a visiting professor of electrical engineering for the past year. Yener has received a number of research accolades to date including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) best paper awards, National Science Foundation CAREER award, and Penn State Engineering Alumni Association (PSEAS) outstanding and premier research awards. She is a fellow of the IEEE.

Yener’s research areas are in information theory, information security, communication theory, energy sustainable communications and fundamental limits of networked systems.

“The recognition signifies the acceptance and appreciation of our research contributions by fellow researchers, as the metric is citations to our papers—that is--the extent to which our work is followed up by other researchers,” Yener said. “So, naturally, this recognition, being based on scholarly quality of our research, makes me happy. I'm also pleased to be able to represent our school of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in this prestigious list.”
