CSE Colloquium: The Database Management System in the AI Era

Abstract

We live in an era where Al techniques (especially transformers) have made significant progress in being able to process, recognize, and match complex multimodal data text, images, timeseries. Many applications (e.g., in medicine, the Web, or the Internet of Things) still have an important need to manage structured records, but now have an ability to take advantage of Al techniques for such data modalities. In this modern era, what does a database management system need to do, and what do queries and data look like? I will describe our continuing work in exploring this frontier, and in building machine learning-integrated data management systems.

About

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was created in the spring of 2015 to allow greater access to courses offered by both departments for undergraduate and graduate students in exciting collaborative research fields.

We offer B.S. degrees in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering and data science and graduate degrees (master's degrees and Ph.D.'s) in electrical engineering and computer science and engineering. EECS focuses on the convergence of technologies and disciplines to meet today’s industrial demands.
